foreword

Four years have come and gone since we, the Class
of 1961, entered Framingham. As the days have quickly
passed, we have experienced growth in many ways. We
have grown intellectually through our course work
under the patient guidance of our instructors, spiritually
through our religious clubs, physically through our many
athletic activities. We have grown socially through a
multitude of class and club functions, professionally
through our teaching experience and our contact with
the professional clubs. We have had the privilege
of hearing lectures by such outstanding guests as Robert
Frost and Werner von Braun. As we have grown, we have
seen the campus grow also, with the addition of two
beautiful new buildings — Martin F. O'Connor Hall and
the Home Economics and Science Building. We have noted
the expansion of the Framingham family with the entrance
of the classes of '62, '63, and '64. We have witnessed
the installation of our new president, Dr. D. Justin McCarthy,
under whose direction the college will continue
to advance.

With us depart two individuals who have been instrumental
in guiding both our growth and that of the college —
President Martin F. O'Connor and Dean Dorothy Lamed.
We shall be eternally grateful to them for all they
have done to make our days on the hill rich and memorable.
To them go our warmest thanks and best wishes for happiness
in the future.

In this DIAL we attempt to recapture the highlights
of our college days as a record of our four years of
growth.

To the Seniors,

You are about to take your places in that
long line of graduates which for well over
a century has been moving forth from
our college.

We who have been privileged to be associated
with you for the last four years are
confident that you will maintain our best
traditions, that you will add new lustre
to the name of Framingham.

Mrs. O'Connor joins me in the hope and the
prayer that the common Father of us all
will shower you with His choicest blessings.

Martin F. O'Connor

To envisage the possibility of a better self,
to will to become the better self, and to
work for identification with that better self —
here is a program worthy of a college woman.
Without it the change that comes with college
years may be capricious and inconsequential;
with it life becomes profitable and increasingly
valuable.

Dorothy Larned, Dean of Women

To Seniors:

To you belongs the distinction of being
members of the first class to be graduated
from Framingham as a State College. It
is significant that during your student
days you have witnessed many changes in
the college and have been an integral part
of them. It is equally significant that
you have developed an ever-increasing
appreciation of the revered traditions
which have been part of Framingham
through her rich history.
For the years ahead I wish you success in
all your efforts as you remain alert to
the needs of changing times, and I wish
you every happiness and blessing as you
remain true to those enduring values which
are timeless.

D. Justin McCarthy, President

hidden courage, good-will and sportsmanship by rallying to the stu-

loving tug of war with the daring faculty members of F.S.C. That's not
all; there will be foot races, dunking for apples, and Softball with stu-
dents pitching curves to the facu lty who steal bases.

This Framingham tradition gives students a behind-the-scenes
glance into the personalities of their stern and rather imposing pro-

the softball games bi't has not fared so well in some of the other con-

Seniors awakened these story-

Droopy-eyed freshmen were then
